Arthur River is a coastal village nestled on the banks of the Arthur River, 61km from Smithton and 15km from Marrawah. Arthur River is a pristine Tasmania wilderness area densely forested with myrtles, sassafras, celery top pine, laurels, blackwood and giant tree ferns. It is part of the famous Tarkine wilderness. Canoe and boat hire are also available. There are 3 camping grounds; Manuka, Peppermint and Prickly Wattle, all operated by Parks and Wildlife. Accommodation available is 3 to 4 star spacious self-catering units; 1 and 2 bedroom, and some cottage accommodation. There are two small general stores. The fishing is very good at Arthur River; Salmon from November to April and Trout in season. The well known 'Edge of the World' plaque is situated at the mouth of the river at Gardiner Point. The Tasmanian Devil roams freely in the Arthur River area and you will likely chance upon wallabies, wombats, and many birds that call the region home. Cruise boats operate daily on the river between mid September to mid June.
