Launceston Treasure Island Caravan Park ~ Launceston

Launceston is Tasmania's second largest city and sits at the junction of the North and South Esk Rivers. From here, the broad Tamar River valley opens north to Bass Strait 50km away.
There is plenty of accommodation in Launceston, including cosy retreats, Bed and Breakfasts, resorts, holiday apartments, hotels, motels and tourist and caravan parks. Camping is a popular choice in many areas, however if you plan on camping in any of the wilderness areas like Cradle Mountain, make sure you have a good map and suitable provisions. The weather in Launceston can get cold, particularly overnight, so make sure you have warm clothes with you too. With so much to see and do, great accommodation and friendly people, you may never want to leave Launceston, Australia.
Like most Tasmanian towns it's easy to explore and nature is right nearby - Launceston Gorge, with its Victorian parklands, complete with peacocks, has steep, rugged cliffs and wild areas that attract climbers. It is within easy walking distance of the city centre. Cataract Gorge Reserve, or The Gorge as the locals call it, is a unique natural formation within a two-minute drive of central Launceston - a rare natural phenomenon in any city. In 15 minutes you can walk from the city centre along the banks of the Tamar River into The Gorge. From here you follow a pathway along the cliff face, originally built in the 1890s, looking down onto the South Esk River.

Launceston is just a 45 minute flight or a relaxing overnight cruise from Melbourne, and a 95 minute flight from Sydney. Bass Strait is the sea-road to Tasmania. Spirit of Tasmania I and II cruise regularly from Port Melbourne (Victoria) to Devonport (Tasmania) all year round. There is a sailing every night in both directions and, during high demand periods, daytime sailings as well. Both ships are vehicular ferries, so you can bring your car and/or caravan, or motorbike. Devonport is 95km from Launceston and can be reached in about an hour.
