Sheffield is known as the "town of murals". Over 30 murals depicting the area's history decorate many of the buildings in the town. The town lies in the shadow of Mt Roland and the surrounding area, known as Kentish, is scenic farming land. The Kentish Museum preserves and displays artefacts from Sheffield's past. Lake Barrington, created by the Mersey-Forth Hydro Electric Scheme, is a world class rowing venue, which is also popular for waterskiing and canoeing. There is an adventure playground and a two-hour nature walk through the rainforest. Nearby is Tasmazia, the world's largest maze complex, where you can have fun getting lost. Further up the valley, Devil's Gate Dam has a semi-circular dam wall and a suspension bridge allowing access to the viewing areas. Sheffield provides a great base for exploring the Cradle Mountain District.
